The City council meets on the second Tuesday of each month at
6 PM in the city hall building.
A copy of the meeting minutes can be obtained by contacting
the clerks office.
Duties of the Aldermen / Council Members
City council members are officers and officials of their city. The city council:
- Has the management and control of the city finances and all real and personal property
belonging to the city.
- Approves or disapproves an annual operating budget by February of each year.
- Sets the procedures by ordinance for making purchases that do not exceed the sum of
$10,000 in cities of the first class.
- May override the mayor's veto by two-thirds vote.
- Calls for a special election in cities of the first class to fill the vacancy of the
unexpired mayor's term of office, if the unexpired term is for more than six months.
- May fill, by appointment in cities of the first class, the vacancy to the office of
mayor if the expired term is less than six months.
- Sets the salaries of the mayor, council, and other municipal officials. Salaries may be
increased during the term, but not decreased during the term of office.
- May remove, on the mayor's recommendation, and by a majority vote of the members of
council in a non-civil service city, the police or fire chief in cities of the first
class.

Rules for city Council Agenda Submissions
In order to submit something to be considered for the city council agenda, the proposal
must be turned in by 10:00 AM the week prior to the council meeting.
Persons wishing to address the council must submit the request to the City Clerk in
writing by 10:AM the Tuesday prior to the meeting.
